Effects of coolant
Coolant is essential in rotary ultrasonic machining. Without it, the debris will stick on the tool and work surface, causing the feed speed to slow down. Moreover, the tool may be burnt or completely ruined by high temperatures in the cutting zone (Markov and Ustinov, 1972). Although systematic work has not been reported on the effects of different types of coolant in rotary ultrasonic machining, in most experiments water is used as coolant. Kubota et al. (1977) stated that there is no difference between water and machine oil with respect to MRR.
