Effects of static pressure

The applied static pressure has a great effect on MRR. As the static pressure increases, MRR increases to a maximum value and then decreases, Figure 4(a). As the static pressure increases, tool wear increases, because of the greater load on the diamond grains (Petrukha et al., 1970), Figure 4(b). The specific tool wear in Figure 4(b) is defined as the ratio of the volume of tool wear to the volume of material removed, expressed as a percentage. As the static pressure increases, surface roughness achieved on the workpiece decreases to a minimum value and then increases, Figure 4(c). |
